I have wittness a quite reverence and humble man, everytime I have looked into the eyes of Heuey Pilots. For all the hell and inhumanity of war pilots jobs were to save lives. The wump wump sound she makes each turn of the rotor. I want you all to know this (the pilots) That while you were there, and now haunt many of you now, may you find solice that for every turn of that rotor you saved a Life, you may not know it, but for just even one man saved,in time Generations have, and will come-all for just one man. For the courage, the bravery and comradery: For each turn you saved another & another life: And those you saved may not even realize it. "THE TRUE MEASURE OF A HERO IS A MAN WHO IS WILLING TO LAY DOWN HIS LIFE WITH THE KNOWLEDGE, THAT THOSE HE SAVED WILL NEVER KNOW!"

This is John Brennan, active member of the VHCMA and the 114th Avn Co Assn. I'm collecting "names" (e.g. FLYING COFFIN, IRON BUTTERFLY) that
in-country Army copter crews painted on their aircraft during their Vietnam tours, 1961-73. Future book by aviation publisher is in the making.
Have cataloged 2,730 names to date. I expect that number to exceed 3,000 when complete. Would very much like to include as many PERSONALIZED copter names as possible. Photos of "names" are fine but not necessary to be included in the database section of the book. "Names" alone will do.
The second part of this book project is the photo collection of helicopter "nose art" that includes "names", artwork, graffiti, everything & anything that was painted officially and unofficially on in-country
Army copters, 1961-73.
Send "name" info and/or scanned "nose art" pics to johnmailman@yahoo.com
Regards, John Brennan, former SP5, Flight Operations Coordinator, 114 AHC, Vinh Long AAF, Mekong Delta, 1970-71
PS: In-Country YEARBOOKS are often a great source for copter "names". Take a peek and give me a shout if something interesting is found.

Hi.

One of your men, Dave Sebright, suggested I try your site. I am looking for info on the pilot and crew who flew a med-evac for Special Forces team ODA-221 at Hill 471, Khe Sanh, on 1/29/68.

The team members were volunteers from FOB 3 who had gone up the hill seeking the bodies of some KIAs and one MIA from MSG Bill Wood's team who were ambushed earlier that day.

(See my web site for details - about 1/2 way down is the story of Hill 471 and the fights.)

The covey was American Beauty Delta (the late COL Jim Stanton, USMC, Ret.)

I know the bird took a LOT of hits, but made it back (barely) to base.

I am trying to find out what happened to the pilot and crew - I heard that at least one was hit.

Anyone out there know anything about this mission? ANy help will be gratefully appreciated.

Best,

Jim Taylor
USMC (Ret.)

Hi- My father, Mike Peters, was a pilot with the 176th in '67-'68. He was awarded the Silver Star in Jan or Feb '68 (?) for picking up a downed figher pilot. I believe it happened during air support missions around Khe Sanh (?). I'm working on a project and I am looking for any info from that day (or anything around that time).
I contacted a gentleman a few years ago via this site, but I lost his info, sorry. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. Great site!
